Seven Deadly Wins: Seduction

June 9, 2009 · 2 Comments

Seven Deadly Wins-SeductionI’ve taken St. Juice’s original concept of combining seven simple songs into a mixtape and my results are heavy on the Australian artists.

Welcome to mHo’s Seven Deadly Wins Volume 1 entitled “Seduction”.  I’ve had an affair with house and disco, I apologize profusely bangerz. I’ll try and make it up to you. <3 mHo

So here goes the run down of my selections for the debut Miss-tape from moi.

Grafton to start it off with a bang with their track All stars which is quickly offset by Caged Baby’s downtempo and soothing “Hello There”.  The perfect segue between this and the Twelves original track, Works for me, was an instrumental track from The Scientists of Modern music. I’m in love with the Twelves and their lyrics for this song ["when you make out with two girls at the door// i think it works for me// when you pass out on the bathroom floor// i think it works for me"] because it reminds me of images from Bronques’ photos of debauchery on LastNightsParty.  The next selection picks up with Russ Chimes’ remix of Continue that has  a throbbing beat and wonderfully wispy vocoded vocals.  Topping off the female vocals, I bring in Moulinex’s Come on Closer which leads into the closer from Danger’s remix of Love juice. Danger’s take on this song combines some unique sounds with superb solos on the keyboard. That about does it for my debut mixtape and I hope ya’ll enjoy it.

P.S. If you have a chance, check out Moulinex’s remix of Love Juice by SymbolOne.

‘Seven Deadly Wins’ Mixtape Series: More Envy

April 17, 2009 · 1 Comment

Seven More Wins

I blended some of my favorite new sounds into a mixtape for your pleasure. Its pretty heavy on the indie sweetness and like Volume One is efficient and beautiful, seven enviably gorgeous tracks in less than fifteen minutes – Perfect for trips to the store, walks around the block, getting dressed to etc.

Drums Please!

Volume 2 starts with the minor key, pop-twee stylings of The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, who try to shake something loose from your heart and hips before handing the baton to Los Campesinos!Los Campesinos! are all class! Perfect synth melodies layered over guitars, layered over glockenspiel, layered over witty, passionate lyrics and sick beats. Whitest Boy Alive takes over with one of the best tracks off their recent release, “Gravity”;  their laid-back soulfulness folds into into the complex, rhythmic sounds of Emilíana Torrini’s “Dead Duck” off her excellent 2008 release, “Me and Armini”. The Hoosiers then inject some beautiful, stirring melodies into the mix before melting into a surprising remix of Cazals‘ hit, “To Cut the Long Story Short”; A tight orchestral arrangement with lush strings, wind instruments and delicate harps.

What are you waiting for?

Mixtape Monday: St. Juice Round One (Sexclusive)

October 21, 2008 · 6 Comments

St Juice vs. Haters

St Juice Round 1, some shitty tracks I made over the last year or so…

And by shitty, I mean EPIC, of course!

At least when I’m referring to the St Juice Parts, there are a few donations from MeMinor, Mayowa and SynWav, who are completely different entities from the ‘Juice and not nearly as awesome.

Anyway, 4 Tracks, 4 tracks are all I need…

Spazzy 808 Claps will introduce you to Sexual Chocolate, the kind that melts in your mouth, not in your hands ;) .

Arpeggiate, instigate and copulate on the dancefloor with Rapostle Hustle.

You can’t get the sax from Orni4 out of your head? Well, maybe the talking drums, congas and huge analog synth in the chorus will rattle something loose!!!

You’ll wanna turn Trials way up, you’ve never heard one boy, one guitar and robot backing band rock so hard.

Get Juiced
. (~7 Minutes/ 7mb)

Tracklist:

Sexual Chocolate (Myspace page anthem) – Syn Wav
Rapostle Hustle (rough)– St Juice of DOB infamy
Orni4 – St Juice
Trials (rough instrumental) – Mayowa

p.s. The horns from Orni4 are not stolen from ‘Heartbeat’ by the Pyschedelic Furs, really. Tout’s Honor!

I’m in synth-pop state of mind this week, I spent last weekend listening to a gloriously queer combination of Depeche Mode, the Twins and some of the contemporary cats that try so hard to emulate the previous two groups glorious sounds.

.

.

Cats with names like Anoraak, College, and Futurecop! who spent all their time and money collecting keytars and tracking down music equipment from the era where synthesizers cost $20,000 and had less memory than a pocket calculator.

.

.

I will warn you, this mix will make a warm happy glow wash over your belly and nether regions, so wear a diaper before you step on the dance floor…

Kiss kiss, my retro kids.

Mixtape Monday 5: Stealing Third with St. Juice, the CORRECT way!

September 2, 2008 · 1 Comment

Don't be a fool, lick a lollipop!

What’ up Internets?

St Juice here, I play alongside Laini Li, making up 2/3 of D.O.B. (as my genitals on their own make up a third and the rest of my body comprises the other third) and this is my first post on MPM.

Today, I have a very special mixtape for you, but its only for grownups or at least, very sexy minors.

Depending on who you ask, third can mean oral, anal, BDSM or the inclusion of multiple partners/barnyard animals.

However, despite differing opinions on the degree of libertinage “third” calls for, all parties must agree that, as the penultimate step before your final carnal goal, it must be handled delicately and tactfully.

This mixtape is meant to be another weapon in your hookup arsenal; to complement the wine coolers, scented candles, cat-o-nine-tails and king-sized rubbers stashed under your bed.

Highlights include: Mike Reeb’s sweet-as-candy panty dropper “Soft Spoken” and Juvelen’s “Summer-Spring”, a surefire “make out”/ “put out”/ “pull out” anthem.

So, turn the lights down low and slip in some “St. Juice”, and while you’re up, you may as well start reaching for your birth control…

Get “Juiced”

Much love,

St Juice

Mixtape Monday 3: An All Night Disco Affair

August 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Bradley D’s awesome skate jam mixtape got me into a disco state of mind, so I whipped up this 20 minutes all-disco mix, no fancy mixing, just a reminder of all the funk, cheese and soul that our parents used to copulate to. (Enjoy that image)

The first track, ‘Grooveberry Jam’ isn’t a disco standard per se, DJ Pumpkin Patch dropped it circa 2006, and I heard it for the first time at Rad 5 in Bloomington where I saw Pumpkin Patch destroy, alongside Action Jackson and Totally Michael. Pumpkin’s based in Brooklyn and plays a mean show: mashups, groovy disco, and electro all effortlessly blended. Add him on myspaz immediately.

Other highlights include Bumblebee Unlimited’s ‘Lady Bug (Just Let Me)’, you’ll beeee (hardy-har) singing the hook all year!

Mixtape Monday 2: Yr Invited!!!

August 4, 2008 · 8 Comments

My main man, Bradley D, is supplying the heat for this week with an awesome 2hr+ mix of roller rink jams. To be honest, I haven’t listened to it as it’s a pretty big file, but as soon as I download it, I’ll upload a compressed version for all the cheap whores, like me, who still have dial-up!

If you don’t know Bradley D, you’d better recognize! Head over to his myspace and pledge your allegiance to his beats, then book a flight to NY/LA and get ready to sweat/f*ck/cry/love/dance all night.

Hear Bradley D’s Skate Jam gospel here (in glorious, uncompressed technicolor)

Tracklist coming soon!

Sean K

I’m stoked to finally be doing a music blog. My name is Sean and I just started doing all-digital, all-lappy top based DJing, and I just started getting into mixing vinyl with cpu assistance. I like everything period, minus specific things. I like playing everything too, including electro house, pop, and am a sucker for upbeat dirty electro with old school and even recent hip-hop over the track. Before I show you some stuff I have, just wanted to give a shout out to these local DJs, as well as DJs I have performed with so far: DJ mHo (also on this blog), D.O.B., Craig Shank, Mike Quick, Tim Zawada & Counts of Bounce, DJ Encrypt, Blinker Beaker, Brian Kelley, Flufftronix, and Action Jackson. I am from South Bend, IN and now I live in Bloomington, IN. I strongly encourage support in the Bloomington dance scene, and bringing anyone into it who wants to do their thing. I just started and am still scruffy, but I am all about starting the party and meeting the people I bring the dance to!

I have a strong influence in progressive hip-hop, all punk before 1999 plus various other pleasures, and all metal. I got into DJing as soon as I got into electro in general. I support DJs who play whatever the fuck they want, on the basis that they want people to have fun. My philosophy is just this, and for anyone who likes fun music in general, here is my June mixtape, which is just short of an hour long, consisting of:

Chromeo – Tenderoni

Daft Punk – Around the World

The Presets – My People (D.I.M. Remix)

M.I.A. – Bamboo Banga

Kid Sister – Control (L.A. Riots Remix)

Boys Noize – Oh! (A-Trak Remix)

HEARTSREVOLUTION – C.Y.O.A. (Flosstradamus Remix)

Purple Crush – Shopping on the Dance Floor (AC Slater Remix)

Eric Prydz – Pjanoo (Alex Rage Remix)

The Outhere Brothers – Boom Boom Boom

Kill the Noise – Hey You (Le Castlevania Remix)

Randy Brusseto & JR from Dallas – Jazz Ghetto City (Lee Mortimer Remix)

Kocky ft. Tinchy Stryder – 4 Ever Juvenile (Krames Remix)

MSTRKRFT – VUVUVU

Benny Benassi – I Am Not Drunk

Simian Mobile Disco – It’s that Beat (Toxic Avenger Remix)

Adele – Cold Shoulder (Rusko Remix)

Sean Kase June Mixtape

^ Get it here! ^

When I first started getting into this thing, I was really into making pre-arranged mash-ups, and I would like to make an intensive mixtape doing that as well. I am more interested in actual spinning so it might be a while, and to be honest, it may never happen. Here is a fun track which includes Timbaland and Flo-rida over Congorock. I told you I like that shit, and if you do, check it out. The Congorock track is solid.

Congorock vs. Flo-Rida ft. Timbaland (Sean Kase\’s Elevator Refix)

You can find other things at my MySpace page at:

www.myspace.com/myexgirlfriendsmyspace

More remixes from myself and other artists in the future.

ONE more thing: a stage name? If you don’t have any suggestions besides my name, how important do you think it is anyway? A lot of artists use their names, well… blah blah blah. Let me know what you think!
